Overview of rotary vane vacuum pump

Roots vacuum pump is a rotary variable capacity vacuum pump that utilizes two "8" shaped rotors in the pump casingInternally perform synchronous reverse rotation to complete suction and exhaust. According to the different working ranges of Roots vacuum pumps, they are further divided into low vacuum Roots pumps that directly discharge into the atmosphere;Medium vacuum Roots pump (also known as mechanical booster pump) and high vacuum multi-stage Roots pump. The characteristics of Roots vacuum pump

Roots vacuum pump is characterized by fast startup, low power consumption, low operation and maintenance costs, large pumping speed, high efficiency, insensitivity to a small amount of water vapor and dust contained in the gas to be pumped, large pumping rate within the pressure range of 100~1 Pa, and rapid removal of sudden gas. This pressure range is just between the oil-sealed mechanical vacuum pump and the diffusion pump. Therefore, it is often connected in series between the diffusion pump and the oil-sealed mechanical vacuum pump to increase the air pumping capacity in the middle pressure range. At this time, it is also called mechanical booster pump.

The structure of roots pump is shown in the figure. In the pump cavity, there are two "8" shaped rotors installed on a pair of parallel shafts vertically, driven by a pair of gears with a transmission ratio of 1, which rotate synchronously in opposite directions to each other. There is a certain clearance between the rotors and between the rotor and the inner wall of the pump casing, which can realize the high-speed operation. As Roots pump is a vacuum pump without internal compression, the compression ratio is usually very low, so the front stage pump is required. The ultimate vacuum of Roots pump depends not only on the structure and manufacturing accuracy of the pump itself, but also on the ultimate vacuum of the previous pump. In order to improve the ultimate vacuum of the pump, the Roots pump can be used in series.







The working principle of roots pump is similar to that of roots blower. Due to the continuous rotation of the rotor, the extracted gas is sucked into the space V0 between the rotor and the pump housing from the suction port, and then discharged through the exhaust port. Since the V0 space is completely closed after suction, the gas in the pump cavity is not compressed and expanded. However, when the top of the rotor turns over the edge of the exhaust port and the V0 space is connected with the exhaust side, due to the high gas pressure at the exhaust side, a part of the gas rushes back into the V0 space, making the gas pressure suddenly increase. When the rotor continues to rotate, the gas is discharged from the pump.
